Due Date for Tax Extension Filing Expires on October 15th
Truckers, tax payers and tax filers… IRS has announced that tax-filing extension runs out on Oct.15 2013 and advised to e-file their return on time.
Well, coming back to extension, it is a way to ask IRS for more time to file your tax return. This year (2013) many tax payers have requested for an automatic six month extension and October 15th is the last date to file your tax return online or paper file. However, some among the lot have more time, including the members of the military, those serving in Afghanistan, or in the combat zones localities. They have typically 180 days more in hand to file and pay any due taxes right after they leave the combat zone. Also, people in Colorado affected by severe storms, floods, landslides and mudslides have got more time, until Dec. 2, 2013, to file and pay.
However, if you have filed an extension via form 4868 for your personal Federal Income Tax Returns, then due date for filing would fall on October 15th.
Also, when it comes to business tax, Form 7004 is an application for Automatic Extension of Time to File Certain Business Income Taxes.
You get 5-month automatic extension to file partnership returns and 6-month automatic extension for corporations. Returns should be filed on or before the due date i.e. 15th of October. If failed to file on time, you’re liable to pay penalties for the same.
E-file return online, it’s Easy, Fast and Secure
IRS urges every tax payer to switch to technology and file their returns electronically. E-filing is fast, accurate and secure. However, the receipt sent across is verified by the agencies and it is proved that filing online eliminates the chances of making mistakes, which is an added advantage.
